Our Story

Rathkennery Farm has been proudly family-run for over seven generations. It began as a traditional mixed Irish farm, with pigs, chickens, cattle, sheep, orchards, vegetables, and flowers. Over time, we refined our focus while preserving the same care, values, and ethical farming practices that have guided us for over 200 years.

Today, our Irish farm focuses on raising 100% Irish grass-finished beef and lamb with a deep respect for the land, the animals, and sustainable agriculture. You’ll still find a few orchards and wild spaces that support biodiversity and reflect our heritage. We take pride in producing premium Irish meat that’s grass-finished, ethically reared, and delivered directly from our farm to customers across Louth, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan, Leinster, and nationwide across the Republic of Ireland.

Our Grass-Fed Cattle

All of our cattle are bought from Irish farms or bred on the farm and finished right here on Rathkennery Farm. We keep them on pasture for as long as the Irish weather allows, because being out on the land is best for their health and well-being. During the colder months, we bring the cattle into winter housing where they’re fed nutrient-rich silage harvested from our own fields, never grain or artificial feed. This slow, natural approach is what makes our Irish grass-fed beef so tender and flavourful. We raise predominantly heifers, young female cattle that haven’t calved, as they consistently produce more tender beef compared to bulls or older cows.

Our Sheep Farm

We care for over 300 sheep on Rathkennery Farm, raised on open pasture year-round in the Irish countryside. Our flock is a cross between mountain and lowland breeds, producing hardy, adaptable sheep that thrive in all weather. These resilient ewes make excellent mothers, and when it’s time to breed, we use lowland rams like the Charolais and Hampshire Down, returning to traditional Irish and English breeds, to produce fast-growing lambs that flourish on an all-grass diet. The result? Naturally raised, grass-finished lamb with outstanding flavour and quality.

"We loved the taste of the meat, it's a lot richer and 'earthier' than what you get in the shops. Also, much more left of it after cooking, especially the mince, so don't need as much (I was even thinking would the small roast be enough at all but we were eating for days...). We'll definitely be ordering again!"

"Seriously nicest roast I ever had, Mam, Mary, Michael - great flavours all loved it. Ehh no wasn't dry was lovely and made the gravy cooked really slow too. I said we will have to widen the doors - we had that much of it."

"I’ve eaten some nice beef this last while, including a tomahawk in Portugal. But your round roast and ribeye take the top spot by a mile. I'm even slicing and cooking the beef fat into it."

"We had a taster box. Excellent packaging and labelling. Meat arrived still frozen solid. We have so far enjoyed the slow cooked lamb belly. Very succulent and full of flavour. The mince needed no extra flavouring and tasted amazing in the cottage pie. The lamb chops were thick cut so we were able to cook them and they remained pink in the middle. Four of us enjoyed the small beef joint as a Sunday roast. Everything was full of flavour and there has been no waste. Looking forward to the steaks today. Will certainly be ordering another box. Great value for money and excellent taste. Thank you."
