Why Grass-Finished Meat Is Better for You

"Grass finished" and "grain fed" meat are very different. Even meat labelled grass-fed is often finished on grain. Our beef is grass finished, meaning our cattle and lambs grow slowly and naturally, just as nature intended. The flavour is richer, and the nutritional profile is better too, with less fat and up to five times more omega-3 than grain-fed. Grass-fed beef also contains more vitamin A and E, along with essential B vitamins.

Our Irish grass-fed beef and lamb help support biodiversity, promoting wildflowers, native trees, bees, and birds across our cattle and sheep farm. We use natural sheep’s wool insulation for all our meat boxes. It’s biodegradable, compostable, and helps reduce plastic waste. Good for your freezer and good for the planet.

There's no system or portal at the moment, so you’ll speak directly with us, either Richie or Caitlin, and we’ll work it out together, the way we do most things around here. One Year of Sustainable Meat from Rathkennery Farm

We want to thank everyone for your incredible support during our first year! Your love for our grass-fed beef and lamb means the world to us, and we’re excited to keep growing. Over the past year, we’ve made improvements based on what we’ve learned, like introducing our Build Your Own Beef Box and the All You Can Beef Box.

We always welcome ideas and feedback from our community. The dogs have grown, and Doc is becoming a brilliant cattle and sheep dog. Around the yard, we’ve eliminated artificial fertilisers and pesticides, with a little help from our farm cats, Merry and Pippin. We believe that when we choose to eat meat, it should be the best quality possible, ethically raised, and from a farm that respects both the environment and the animals.

The mince needed no extra flavouring and tasted amazing in the cottage pie. The lamb chops were thick cut so we were able to cook them and they remained pink in the middle. Four of us enjoyed the small beef joint as a Sunday roast. Everything was full of flavour and there has been no waste. Looking forward to the steaks today. Will certainly be ordering another box.
